These are just some of the many steps you can take to decrease the likelihood that you or your home is targeted.

  • Keep your doors, windows and garage locked, even in the daytime
  • Use motion detector lights for your driveway and backyard
  • Use timers while on vacation
  • Do not open the door to anyone unless you know who he or she is
  • Stay alert to unusual sights and sounds in your neighbourhood
  • Listen and look: when you hear a strange sound or see suspicious activity, use your instincts and report it to Police as it is happening.

To prevent burglary of your motor vehicle

Here are some handy tips and steps you can take to decrease the likelihood that your vehicle is a target for vandalism or theft.

  • Always lock your car doors and close your car windows
  • Park your vehicle in your locked garage, or
  • Park in your driveway – avoid parking on the street
  • Use motion-detector lighting in the driveway
  • Do not leave items (i.e. garage door opener, briefcase, laptops, wallets, keys) in your vehicle
  • Do not let the burglar go “window shopping”. If you leave items in your vehicle, put them in the trunk or out of sight.
