Water Safety in Your Community Supervision means that a child is ALWAYS being watched by an adult within arm’s reach. Teaching children to swim can also prevent drownings, however swimming lessons and floaties are no substitute for adult supervision.
Drowning and near-drowning incidents pose a threat to everyone, every age. Drowning is in fact the greatest cause of accidental death of children under five. Some safety tips to keep in mind when swimming;
- Never leave children unattended in pools or baths
- Swim between the red and yellow flags
- Fence the pool and shut the gate
- Check water depths before diving/jumping
- Call 000 in emergencies
For more information about local swimming school classes, visit the Blacktown City Council Emerton Leisure Centre Website www.elc.blacktown.nsw.gov.au and download pricelist and program for classes on offer.
